(May 10, 2022) We’re excited to announce the acquisition of a 50% interest in the complete publishing catalog of John Hampson, co-founder and lead singer for the pop/rock band Nine Days.
The New York-based band released three independent albums in the mid-to-late 90’s, breaking through in 2000 with their Gold-certified major label debut, The Madding Crowd, which spawned two hit singles; the Top 10 Pop song “Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)” and the follow up “If I Am”. 2002’s follow-up album, So Happily Unsatisfied, saw
them grow their fan base and yielded the single “Good Friend”. John and his bandmates have continued to write and record as Nine Days as well as for other projects. Mojo’s deal includes 52 songs, covering John’s contributions to Nine Days’ seven albums, his two solo albums and a cache of previously unreleased tracks.
John composed several custom versions of “Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)” for A24’s recently released sci-fi comedy Everything Everywhere All At Once, and the Mojo creative team has already begun to promote his two decades of songs across all media.
Said John Hampson: “I have been a ‘published’ songwriter for 22 years, and Mark and the team at Mojo have been the most actively thoughtful and involved, not just in my music, but in considering me as a person and an artist. In this case it is absolutely true- good things do come to those who wait! After just a few short months with Mojo, I feel more connected, involved and excited about getting my music out there than I have in years.”
Said Mojo Co-Founder and CEO Mark Fried: The early 00’s were a powerfully transformative time and I can’t think of a band that better captured the zeitgeist than Nine Days. From our first chat with John, we realized how aligned we were creatively and have hit the ground running looking for ways to reimagine his classic songs and inspire some new ones.”
